Frosted Birthday Desert!

Dear Maia and Isaac,

Today was my first real adventure of 2019!  The past few years, I have gone to Moab, UT to celebrate my birthday.  Why Moab?  Well, it is in the desert so it usually feels like spring.  And, I like a gift of spring for my birthday.  But, this year, they got 8 inches of snow on Monday and it keeps snowing off and on.

I am glad the drought is ending, but I couldn’t really hike today like I wanted to.  So, the dogs and I went to Arches National Park instead.   The only downside is that the dogs have to stay in the parking lots at National Parks, so I prefer dog-friendly state parks.

There have been a lot of movies filmed at Arches National Park because it looks like the moon or something.  My favorite is Thelma and Louise.  Have you ever seen this in a movie?

It was a good way to spend my birthday, although I would rather have been hiking.  But, it was too snowy at Dead Horse Point to see anything and the storm doesn’t end until tomorrow.  So, we will try again tomorrow.

I hope you can go see Arches someday.  If you do, I would love to go with you!  I use to take your mom and aunt Erica here when they were little.  Your mom liked the rocks that look like elephants the best.

My dogs love staying in motels.  Sazi got so cold today climbing through the snow that she was lifting her back foot way up by her body.  She is so tiny.  I brought my electric blanket, though, so that makes her happy.

Anyway – hopefully I can post some hiking photos tomorrow.

Love, Grandma Hartt
