The Goblin Was Too Well Bred to Wink: Utah Day 2

Dear Isaac, Maia, and Virtual Wanderers,

This blog is about day 2 of our Utah camping road trip 2022. Today, we ventured from Green River State Park to Goblin Valley. It is a short drive with a dramatic change in scenery – from boat ramps to hoodoos. We overshoot the turnoff so we could have lunch at our favorite place in Hanksville. I eat simple in the campgrounds – soup, crackers, chips, cookies. It is nice to grab a burger every now and then.

How camping trip mornings start . . .

We headed back to Goblin and set up camp. It was hot – I think the high 90s. Too hot to hike, for a very long time. Remind me to come in the spring next time. The soup was on when it was about to cool off. Then we went hiking until sunset. It was nice but very short. This looked like the only really hot day on our trip when we left – we were supposed to have monsoons every other day. It didn’t turn out that way, but the predictions of today being hot were spot-on.

It is open hiking there – so we were not on a trail. You can see the stairs down from anywhere we hike and it is flat, other than the stone goblins, so easy to find our way back. I think maybe we will have time to return before we leave tomorrow. PS the goblins are really stone hoodoos. Find out more about them here.
