Dear Maia and Isaac,
I started the first leg of my road trip. I only worked part of a day, then loaded the pups up and away we went. We are in the Four Corners tonight. The trip was uneventful other than realizing I left my Kindle and chargers at home. I downloaded the Prime app and stopped at Dollar General – so I think I will survive.
Anyway, we crossed the San Juan Mountains today. The Uncompahgre National Forest is so pretty. I always like that drive unless it is icy. It was snowing today. I think we will see all the seasons this trip.
I wanted to stop at Canyons of the Ancients National Monument and do the short hike up to the Ancient Pueblo Ruins, but they close the gates at night. Mesa Verde and Sleeping VeUte Mountian have just a light frosting of snow. It was really pretty and I wish I could have gotten a picture.
The pups and I stopped by the park and they got to stretch their legs. They have a little Four Corners Veterans Memorial there. It is kind of cool with the seals of New Mexico, Utah, Arizona, and Colorado.
I went to eat and came back to the hotel to write this blog. I am honestly really tired, although I usually watch an Unsolved Mystery on the Devil’s Highway. We will follow the Devil’s Highway part of the way tomorrow. It is called that because it was the 6th spur off of Route 66. So, they named in highway 666. Some people affiliate that with the devil.
Once we get to Shiprock, New Mexico, I have a choice of paths I can take. One is a road I haven’t taken before (NM 371) but it is an hour longer. I hope to get up early and go the longer way. I wonder what adventures tomorrow will bring.
Love,
Grandma Hartt
