Utah Frisson Trip: Day 1 – Home to Green River, UT

Dear Maia and Isaac,

The triennial Utah camping road trip has begun. We always start on Maia’s birthday as a way of honoring her. We drove 160 miles from home to Grand Junction to Green River. There is nothing particularly thrilling about Greem River. But, it’s a well-positioned gateway to out Utah camping roadtrip.

This is our 4th time to take this trip, although the route has changed a bit since our first time 9 years ago. The first trip was to celebrate my doctorate graduation. Seems like forever ago.

Starting tomorrow, we will be on one of the most scenic drives in Utah, if not the US. We are taking our time with lots of camping stops. But, today was mostly a hot drive. We arrived to 101 degree weather and a fairly dry but very windy monsoon.

I’m calling this trip the Utah Frisson Trip. While is doesn’t exactly rhythm with fishin’ trip, it’s close enough for me. Frisson is that scared, excited feeling that sends chills down your spine. “Someday, we will find what we are looking for, or maybe not, maybe we will find something greater than that.”

Kachina is a little sick to her tummy tonight. Maybe just too hot today and got car sick. I’m a bit worried about her. Hopefully tomorrow she is better or we may have to find a vet. I’m optimistic she will feel better tomorrow.

I’m without mush internet the next few days. I’ll try to post daily, but there may be gaps.

TTFN, Grandma Hartt
