Dear Maia, Isaac and Virtual Wanderers,
We are trippin’ down to the Four Corners area this week. This trip is a bit of a sampler plate of lots of favorite places to camp not too far from home. But before I go on . . . Happy Birthday to my favorite granddaughter, Maia! I always like to start the trip as a celebration of your day.

It’s interesting how my road trips have been to some of the same spots for years, but there is also change. Because of family plans next month, I’m combining my normal September Hovenweep trip and my longer summer camping road trip.

Today was a somewhat straight shot from Montrose to Mancos via Lizardhead Pass. I avoid Red Mountain (the straight shot) because it often sets my positional vertigo off for a few weeks.

There was rain in the mountains from the monsoon moisture. It was very beautiful with the fog.

The purpose of the trip was to get up into the Four Corners without having to leave early. We left early afternoon and arrived by 4 despite the weather.

This is a pretty spot to camp the first night. It was our Labor Day Weekend campground for several years. It’s a long enough drive that a three day weekend is too much drive time. This trip, it’s our jumping off point to an unusual summer camping road trip. Tomorrow, we dive deeper.
I’m going to try to blog as I go but also not spend too much battery. So, I may add more and insert backlinks later.
