Dear Isaac, Maia, and Virtual Wanderers,
Be sure to check out part one of our day 8 trip and our side trip to Savery and the Little Snake River Museum here.
The trip from Savery back to Colorado was gorgeous and rural – we traveled through Medicine Bow National Forest on Wyoming Highway 70, When we got to Encampment, we dropped south towards Walden, CO. I had forgotten my ice cream sandwich at the Little Snake River Museum – that was going to be my early lunch. As we drove, I was getting hungrier and hungrier. I, however, didn’t see any great places to stop with the dogs in Encampment or Walden. I munched on snacks and just continued on toward our campground.
Let me say that today wasn’t even initially on our schedule but I extended it when I made the decision to adopt little Cimarron (Simone) from Harley’s House of Dreams in Berthoud. I would otherwise be heading south today to camp at Stagecoach State Park before heading home the following day. That’s now how it worked out. Honestly, I had wanted to stay at North Michigan Reservoir at State Forest State Park again ever since our somewhat unexpected visit in 2020. It is absolutely gorgeous – you can see Rocky Mountain National Park in the distance.

By the time we got there, all I wanted to do was eat! And, so another night of soup and snacks today. It was OK, though, because it was so gorgeous, peaceful, and cool. In fact, almost cold that night. This park is a great segway between the Western Slope and the Front Range – and feels more like the Western Slope. Tomorrow, our culture and weather will shift. And, I would have 3 dogs!
