Back in the Saddle, Again: A Side Trip to Savery, Wyoming Day 8 Dinosaur & N CO Camping Road Trip

Dear Isaac, Maia, and Virtual Wanderers,

Day 8 is split into two parts. The first part involves a trip from Hahns Peak to Savery, Wyoming. Why? Because I am involved with the Little Snake River Museum there and I wanted to get up and visit my family heirlooms in Wyoming.

Routt County Colorado Road 129 is a wonderful dirt road that weaves through the high country of summer sheep pasture down to the town of Savery, Wyoming. We enjoyed watching the cattle drive along the way. It takes about an hour and a half.

We got to the museum and Lela gave me a grand tour of the place while the dogs waited peacefully (or not) in the shade. I saw a lot of stuff that related to my grandfather’s sheep businesses. I thought my tent was small until I saw that teepee that Granddad’s sheepmen slept in! The range war era has always been interesting to me – I wish I could ask my granddad what it was like. There was a lot of information on it here and I love the old sheep wagons!

I stopped at the museum shop and got a couple of things to savor my time there celebrating mom and her family. The blog will continue as we head from Savery through Encampment, then back to Colorado for another night of camping.
