Dear Maia, Isaac, and Virtual Wanderers,
Today, the sun came up and Koko sang (howled) her morning song. I was happy we didn’t get up early enough to wake up the other campers :-) We headed north on Highway 13 to Rangely, then took the cut-off to Dinosaur, CO. It was beautiful, remote travel through Northwestern, Colorado.

We had lunch in Rangely on a nice little outdoor porch. I chatted with the waitress about the LPN school at the little college there since I had just retired from directing the LPN program in Delta. Lunch was delicious and I knew it would be our “real meal” of the day because I eat soup when we camp out.

After that, we headed up the road to Dinosaur, CO. Some statues looked like we were in Jurassic Park and street names like Brontosaurus. I always remember taking my human children here years ago and their reactions to the surroundings. The dogs didn’t notice.

We took a left at Highway 40 and headed to the Dinosaur National Monument headquarters near Jensen, UT – I have not been to this area since my girls were small. It got hot once we got into Utah but I wanted to stop at the petroglyph on the way to our campground. Koko wasn’t too impressed with the heat – but the girls survived a photo op.

The campsite was hot and I rested with the dogs in the shade until the temperature dropped a bit. We ate and took a short hike toward the Split Mountain campground from our Green River campground site. It was still pretty hot, but there were some awesome sights. Split Mountain is so stunning and the wildflowers were just gorgeous.

Koko’s Tractive tracker needed to be charged today after we left Rifle – I was surprised, though, that it showed her track from the time we left home and was very accurate as far as a roadmap despite the spotty cell coverage in some areas. We had cell service at the Green River Campground so I marked it as a safe zone to save battery.
